International Women’s Day 2018

Today is International Women’s Day and this years campaign is #PressForProgress.
pressforprogress-cardsOn the official website for International Women’s Day they explain what this campaign is, I quote ..

“Now, more than ever, there’s a strong call-to-action to press forward and progress gender parity. A strong call to #PressforProgress. A strong call to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.

International Women’s Day is not country, group or organisation specific. The day belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. So together, let’s all be tenacious in accelerating gender parity. Collectively, let’s all Press for Progress.”

I am very much for pushing for equal rights for women in all areas, not just in the workplace and wages. I was curious to find out who founded this movement and the website above obliged ..

“Started by the Suffragettes in the early 1900’s, the first International Women’s Day was celebrated in 1911. International Women’s Day belongs to all communities everywhere – governments, companies, charities, educational institutions, networks, associations, the media and more. Whether through a global conference, community gathering, classroom lesson or dinner table conversation – everyone can play a purposeful part in pressing for gender parity.”

I now work from home for my husband, which makes me feel like I am contributing towards our income. The benefit of working for my husband is that I can work flexi hours and around my health issues. Some weeks I do nothing and others can put in a fair few hours. My husband is fair and believes very much in equal rights for women. Our eldest daughter is very passionate and fights for verbally and by participating in marches to raise awareness of areas where women are not equal and to push for our rights. She is a feminist with strong belief and a fiery passion ~ her beliefs and enthusiasm is infectious and has made me feel more vocal and visible in these areas where in the past I would step back into the shadows and say nothing.

The press for progress campaign asks us all to push forward for equality and I take that as meaning for all not just women but for those who don’t feel they fit in either category too. Slowly I see the worlds views turning towards equality, although very slow, it is happening.

So for today, our day, I would like to raise a glass and toast all of those amazing, strong, talented and eloquent women who continue to fight the fight and push forward for our cause. I toast those, like myself, who do what they can, when they can, to join the fight in our own way. To those girls yet to become women to listen to their mothers, grandmothers, aunts and the women around them to forge the path towards their future with the knowledge that women can do anything they put their mind to doing. Gender is irrelevant ~ our only limitation is our the belief we have in ourselves.

So to my daughters ~ you are amazing, despite challenges, barriers and the long continuous obstacle race you find yourself on. You have worked towards your goals and ambitions and are reaping the rewards each and every day. You didn’t give up, you didn’t let others push you down. I am incredibly proud of you all.

Wherever, whenever I can I will do my part to push for progress ~ will you?

Today we celebrate women around the world, from all paths, from all religions, from all creed and colour ~ beneath our skin we are all equal. Our looks, colour, age, religion do not define us unless we allow them too.

I thank all those amazing women who worked so hard in the past to enable us to be where we are today. More needs to be done but I believe firmly we will achieve our goal.

You can do your bit for this years campaign by following this link and finding out how best you can press for progress.

PressforProgress-downJust as a last thought ~ I am in love with the colour purple, just in case you missed it.

“This year the Pantone Colour Institute announced “Ultra Violet” will be the 2018 Colour of the Year.” How cool is that?

Ultra Violet also just happens to be my current hair colour too! I use Schwarzkopf live ultra violet for brown hair and it comes out like this ..
