I have decided it’s about time I did a purely unnecessary blog, it’s just me sharing 60 odd things about myself with you, so you can get a fuller picture of who I am. Despite all my blogs talking about our mental and physical health issues I am more than just that. When I saw this thread going round on Facebook I thought it was a great idea and something a little more lighthearted than most of my posts. If you are a follower of my blog then you know that we are a deeply dysfunctional functional family, facing everything from ME, Heart Disease, Hypermobility, Anxiety, Depression, Trichotillomania, Dermatillomania, Autism, Dyspraxia, Borderline (Emotionally Unstable) Personality Disorder, Diverticulitis, Coeliac and so on ~ but what else do you know about me? Do you know the silly things, the trivia? So I thought I would respond with this list….
60 Odd Things You Don’t Know About Me!
1. Do you like blue cheese ?
Nope, I find it far too strong and something about the blue veins through the cheese just makes me shudder. I do however LOVE brie and Camembert, strangely the white mould doesn’t faze me at all.
2. Have you ever smoked?
I used to smoke quite heavily during my early years as a teenager through to mid-twenties, I once tried to smoke dried out banana skins as I was told it would make you high ~ it didn’t, just made me feel horribly sick! I gave up when I decided I wanted to try for a baby and haven’t smoked since ~ that was 20 years ago.
3. How tall are you?
Currently 5ft 8.5”, but in my medical records it has me down as being 5ft 10” when I was 16! I am therefore legitimately shrinking, quite rapidly it would seem!
4. What is your pet hate?
Liars, people telling bare faced lies and thinking you don’t see through them.
5. What is your secret pleasure?
I don’t like being dressed or wearing anything on my feet, so as soon as I am in the house off come the shoes and the bra, on go the “slobs” to lounge about the house in.
6. Do you consider yourself to have any quirks?
I am particular about weird things, I hate the cutlery draw being messed up, or crumbs in the butter. I don’t like curtains drawn all the time (as soon as I open them the girls close them!). I like familiar routine and loathe unexpected surprises.
7. Are you good with money?
No I’m terrible with it, we have a joint bank account and hubby does all the accounting, if I feel the urge to spend I give him my credit cards and ask him to just give me a cash allowance until I feel I can trust myself with the cards again.
8. What do you like about yourself?
Not sure if this means physical aspect or character? So will answer both; Physically I like my eyes ~ they are dark brown and quite big, I think you can tell an awful lot about a person when you are talking to them by watching their eyes and body language. Characteristically I think I am pretty caring of others, which I think is a good think, although can be very draining too.
9. What do you dislike about yourself?
Again not sure whether physical or character ~ so physically, I don’t like my feet, they look like someone has plopped jelly babies on them instead of toes and they are always blistering or swollen and painful ~ they do a great job in carrying me about but boy I could do without the ugliness of them ~ although a damn good pedicure does improve them somewhat! As for character ~ I am very shy and insecure when out of the home and family environment, I make up for it with bluster and inane chatter, speaking 100 miles a minute and leaving those I encounter a little discombobulated.
10. Why do you blog?
I find blogging very therapeutic, it’s a way to be sociable and say what’s on my mind, I can talk about illness and emotions on my blog in way I couldn’t in a face to face situation because I get flustered and easily intimidated. I feel as if I am boring folk and that worries me, whereas with blogging folk can choose whether or not to read what I write.
11. When were you born?
I was born May 1969.
12. What Star Sign are you?
Taurus, and yes I can be very stubborn.
13. Do you own a gun?
No and I never would even if I could. Although, I admit I enjoyed shooting a number of guns at cans and bottles when visiting America ~ but that’s where it ends. I think you should only own a gun if you use it for your work, either as a gamekeeper, farmer, pest controller or as a member of the armed forces/police. I would hate for our country to have all the gun issues that America has, and now they have the right to own guns it will be so much harder for them to legislate changes.
14. What is your favourite flavour of ice cream?
I have had melon flavour only a handful of times and would rate that as my favourite but it is seldom available unless you go to a place which makes their own ice-cream and they happen to have melon on the menu (once in a blue moon in my experience). So second favourite would be mint choc chip.
15. Do you get nervous before doctor visits?
Yes if for myself, hate going to the doctors for anything regarding my health, but as advocate to my girls, then no not at all.
16. What do you think of hot dogs?
In a word YUCK! Awful gristly things made from no meat whatsoever, vile, disgusting, inedible tosh.
17. Favourite films:
Truly Madly Deeply, Kung Foo Hustle, Bourne Series, Sci Fi, Thrillers, Action, Comedies ~ most films really but don’t tend to go for the romantic mushy films.
18. What do you prefer to drink in the morning?
Enormous vats of coffee, don’t even consider talking to me until I have consumed at least three buckets of it.
19. If you could go back in time and change something what would it be?
I would go back to the last few weeks of mums life and ensure that she wasn’t treated the way she was by the medical professionals and had a gentle peaceful end of life instead of the awful trauma she was put through.
20. Do you do push-ups?
*snorts loudly* what are they? Nope, can’t do and never have been able to do push~ups, although I am very adept at lifting glasses of wine and consuming them.
21. Do you have any regrets?
I wish I had known what lay ahead and done things with the girls whilst they were stronger and healthier. We never know what’s round the corner and life so far has taught me to grab the good moments and savour them whilst we have them.
22. What’s your favourite piece of jewellery?
I don’t wear jewellery other than my piercings and wedding ring, which are all titanium so I don’t react to them, I wear a key around my neck which is special to me as it is a “giving key” from my middle daughter which says “Bravery” on it, along with a pendant from a necklace my youngest daughter gave me, as I am allergic to so many metals I wear it on a cord strap instead. ~ so my answer would have to be my wedding ring along with key/pendant. (just a note: I have three daughters and they all gave me something special, two I wear around my neck and the last item a piece of wood from my eldest is on my key ring as she knows how much I love trees).
23. Favourite hobby?
Sleeping ~ I rarely manage to have a truly restful sleep but when I do it’s fabulous!
24. Buried or Cremated?
Put me in a nice quiet room for a few days to make sure I am really dead first, then cremate me and bury my ashes under a sapling somewhere along the coastline.
25. What’s the one thing you dislike about yourself?
Being so hyper critical of myself, would love to just enjoy being who I am without always seeing the negative aspects.
26. What is your middle name?
Marguerita; it’s my middle name and was my mums christian name, as I am the middle child we have given it as a middle name to our middle daughter too.
27. Name three thoughts at this moment?
Worrying about the welfare of each of my daughters who have much to deal with.
I have to go for a shower but am too tired, so dry shampoo and wet wipes may be coming out to play.
The dogs are very quiet, either they are asleep or are up to not good (Skyla likes to think she is the Andrex puppy and unrolls loo rolls around the house if the toilet door is left open) ~ I think I should go and check!

33. Where would you like to go?
I would love to be able to travel with my hubby and daughters to Rome and Pompeii and see all the sights, it’s a holiday I took with my family when I was 10 years old and have never forgotten it ~ a truly magical memorable trip which I would like to recreate with my own family now.
34. Do you own slippers?
I have in the past but somehow always lose them so possibly only ever manage to wear them a couple of times before they disappear, so at the moment no.
35. What colour shirt are you wearing right now?
Not wearing a shirt but am wearing a black vest top and cropped jeans.
36. Do you like sleeping on satin sheets?
No they feel awful I can’t bear the sensation ~ just a simple 100% cotton girl myself.
37. Can you whistle?
Briefly, with very little oomph and no tune.
38. What are your favourite colours?
Purple, black and then blues but not the navy dirgey colours of blue more of the midnight blues.
39. Would you be a pirate?
Nope, don’t fancy the scurvy, lice ridden look myself ~ plus I get horrific sea~ sickness so would be vomiting over the side the entire time.
40. What songs do you sing in the shower?
I don’t sing in the shower, it takes enough just to manage to have one, let alone sing in it!
Being burnt alive, spiders and anything awful happening to someone I love.
I drink too much and overshare with people I’ve only just met, who end up going home knowing the name of my haemorrhoid, it’s Bernard by the way.
43. What’s in your pocket right now?
A tissue and a scrumpled piece of paper.
44. Last thing that made you laugh?
Watching “Friday Night Dinner” with the girls. We really love this series and it tickles our funny bones, especially the neighbour Jim.
45. Best toy as a child?
Not a toy but my sister ~ she was my best friend and playmate. We were so close people thought we were twins although there are 15 months between us.
46. Worst injury you’ve ever had?
Torn abdominal muscles during my last two pregnancies, had to wear a special support belt and then when finished having children needed double prolapse repair and electric shock treatment to my bladder. Left now unable to do heavy lifting or twisting, and a consumer of Tena Lady products ~ just in case of belly laughing or raucous sneezes.
47. Where would you love to live?
I love where I am right now, but would also love to spend as much time as possible in our caravan on the coast too.
48. How many TV’s do you have?
49. Who are your loudest friends?
I don’t have many friends but of those I do have I don’t consider any of them loud really.
50. How many dogs do you have?
Three gorgeous bundles of fur.
51. Does someone trust you?
I should bloody well hope so ~ trust is immensely important to me.
52. What book are you currently reading?
Nothing at the moment, am considering audio books but haven’t got round to it yet.
53. What’s your favourite sweet?
Sweet would be Rosie Apples, chocolate (if you consider that a sweet) would be smarties, only smarties have the answer you see.
54. What’s your favourite sport?
Sport is not something I can participate in anymore BUT I do love watching banger racing and so if that is considered a sport then that would be it.
55. Favourite month?
Honestly I don’t have one, each month brings something different to the table and so I can’t choose between them.
56. Favourite Taste?
The cold fresh test of a perfectly ripe watermelon.
57. Favourite Smell?
The indescribable smell of summer, warmth coming up from the ground, the aroma of plant life, the smell of lotion on warm skin, smell of fresh grass cuttings, cooking of barbeques, all mixed in together is my favourite smell.
58. Favourite Quote?
It’s one by Terry Pratchett; “What have I always believed? That on the whole and by and large, if a man lived properly, not according to what any priests said, but according to what seemed decent and honest inside, then it would, at the end, more or less, turn out alright.”
59. Have you/would you ever have plastic surgery?
I haven’t ever had plastic surgery although at one point I would have said a huge emphatic YES to this question and would have said a tummy tuck and liposuction. Now though it’s a resounding NO, my body has been through quite enough and still manages somehow to get me through each day, I don’t heal well, previous necessary surgeries have shown it takes my body twice as long to heal than other people which makes me feel why tempt fate by messing with it? Knowing my luck I would end up looking like a bag of spanners instead of a goddess anyway ~ so will stick with the sturdy, wobbly, crinkled, scarred body I have, better the devil you know and all that.
60. If you had 3 wishes what would they be?
First would be for my family to be both physically and mentally healthy.
Second would be for financial stability for my family for life (not too much but not too little, just enough to live on and be happy).
Third would be a long one; ideally treatments or cures for those in need of it. For tolerance and understanding worldwide, it would be a boring place if we all agreed or thought the same way but it would be a better place if we all worked together in harmony despite our differences to help and support others worldwide who are in desperate need of it. To help humanity unify as one to find ways to help heal the planet and stop plundering its resources and poisoning it and the wildlife before it’s all too late.
